As part of his 20-minute set on the popular NPR series, the DMV rapper performed “06 Dreamin” from his latest album The Crossroads, which sampled a song that his mother recorded in the mid ’00s when she was an aspiring singer.
The 27-year-old later commented on the mother-son duet, writing on X: “Brought my momma on to my tiny desk ! It was always a dream of hers to be a singer, so I wanted to share this moment w her !”
Cordae’s Tiny Desk Concert also included songs such as “RNP,” “Nothing’s Promised” and “Saturday Mornings,” sans Lil Wayne.
Away from music, it was recently revealed that the rapper had split from girlfriend and tennis star, Naomi Osaka.
In a post on her Instagram Stories in January, Osaka assured fans there was no animosity between her and Cordae and expressed gratitude that their relationship had resulted in the birth of a daughter.
“Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship,” she began. “No bad blood at all, he’s a great person and an awesome dad.
The pair began dating in 2019 and welcomed daughter Shai four years later.
After the project peaked at number 143 on the Billboard 200, the former YBN representative was asked on The Breakfast Club whether he viewed it as a “flop,” as had been suggested by people on social media.
“If you look at channels like that, their whole channel subscribes to a bunch of negativity. That’s what they’re about. Every artist in music, you can find something negative and nitpick at where they lack in some department.”
