Kendrick Lamar has hit yet another career milestone thanks to the success of his diss verse against at Drake and J. Cole.
On Monday (April 1), Billboard reported that Future and Metro Boomin‘s “Like That” featuring K.Dot has rocketed to the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 songs chart. The viral hit is just one of five from their WE DON’T TRUST YOU album to debut in the Hot 100’s top 10, with the LP itself claiming the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200.
Kendrick has previous topped the Hot 100 tally twice before in his career with his feature on Taylor Swift‘s “Bad Blood” in 2015 and “Humble” in 2017.
On the track, the former TDE rapper takes a number of shots, kicking things off with a mention of Drizzy and Cole’s No. 1 single “First Person Shooter” with accusations of “sneak dissin.’”
“Yeah, get up with me/ Fuck sneak dissin’, first person shooter/ I hope they came with three switches,” he raps.
The Compton native then directly references “the big three,” considered by many to be himself, Drake and J. Cole, asserting himself at the top of the rap chain.
He also compares himself to Prince and the others to Michael Jackson, suggesting his work will outlive both of their catalogs.
“Think I won’t drop the location? I still got PTSD/ Muthafuck the big three, n-gga, it’s just big me/ N-gga, bum, what? I’m really like that/ And your best work is a light pack/ N-gga, Prince outlived Mike Jack’,” he spits.
The 36-year-old closes things out by referencing Drake’s 2023 album For All the Dogs and Stephen King’s 1983 novel Pet Sematary with: “N-gga, bum, ‘fore all your dogs gettin’ buried/ That’s a K with all these nines, he gon’ see Pet Sematary.”
Seemingly unbothered by the slight, the 6 God appeared to respond to Kendrick’s remarks with a defiant speech during a show in Sunrise, Florida on his Big As the What? Tour last week.
“A lot of people ask me how I’m feeling … I’ma let you know I’m feeling. Listen, the same way I’m feeling is the same way I want you to walk out this building tonight,” he told the audience.
“I got my fucking head up high, my back straight, I’m 10 fucking toes down in Florida and anywhere else I go. And I know that no matter what, there’s not a n-gga on this Earth that could ever fuck with me in my life!”
On the other hand, the Canadian superstar’s dad didn’t take the comments lying down, firing a direct shot at the rap trio for taking aim at his son.
“Yo I am about to drop some new music and I am not sure if it’s going to sell, but I am going to call some of my homies and get them to start a beef with Drake and get them to unfollow him and that’s going make my shit shoot up to number 1,” he wrote in a sarcastic Instagram post.
“I’m sure this is going to work so let me get some people on board for this and watch what kind of attention this gets!!!!!!!!!!!! I WILL BE NUMBER ONE 1Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
